SOLD - Antique Anatolian Turkish Rug, 9x10 - 'The Bohemian Salon'
SOLD
An antique, hand-knotted, Turkish oriental rug will add abundant color, warmth and charm to any room.
ORIGIN
Weavers in the Anatolian peninsula of Turkey, most likely in the town of Sivas, diligently hand-knotted this beautiful carpet, c. 1920's.
DESIGN
The rug features stunning, authentic, vegetable-dye colors. A deep rose and navy border frames an ivory field. Bold, geometric design motifs adorn the field of the rug, rendered in navy, rose, blue, salmon, sage green etc. The design motifs and overall style echo the 'Serapi' rugs woven in Heriz, Iran during the same era.
An Islamic prayer inscription appears along the inner borders of the two long edges. One inscription is a mirror image of the other.
This rug offers several distinct advantages for contemporary decor. The relatively square proportions are well suited to many modern living spaces. These proportions are unusual for antique rugs, which are typically more elongated. Also, the rug's allover pattern offers versatility for furniture placement, in contrast with many other rugs featuring strong central medallions.
CONDITION
The rug was recently washed, and has been stored carefully since.
The design and colors show beautifully, but the rug is in worn antique condition. A small stain appears in one corner, and one of the long edges shows a small repair seam. Please see the photos for more details. The rug still offers plenty of charm and vibrant, gorgeous colors, to last for decades ahead.
